Certifícate of occupancy

Fran Petrillo
Posted

Does anyone know about Certificate of occupancy? Is this something that is usually given after purchasing a multi unit? Or is this something that I would need to obtain from the town once I’ve purchased a multi family property?

@Fran Petrillo

It depends on the project.

C of O is issued by building department certifying that it’s up to code and you or your tenants can live in. If you’re buying a new building/unit, developer is responsible providing you with a c o. If you’re buying project to rehab, your responsible obtaining one after all work is completed per code.
