Viburnum as substitute for fence?

The backyard of the house has 6 foot tall wood fence except for a 15 foot gap near the front, where there is a chain link fence instead.

The fence person wants $375 to put new fence in (two wood panels). I was thinking of planting viburnum as a cheaper alternative. Has anyone had luck with this?

Viburnum are a great screening plant. You'll probably have to wait about 5 to 7 years I'd guess for them to reach 6' though.
