Considering buying a building with a noise issue from the building next door - advice please?
I am looking at a duplex with a 4BR unit and a 5BR unit, so the property will always have tenants with children, and likely young children at that.
When I viewed the property today, one of the tenants complained of loud vehicle and party noise from the adjoining property. Apparently two young guys are tenants living in the adjoining building and have friends over and they drink beer and work on cars in their own driveway. Loudly. The property line with the driveway is right next to the building I am considering buying, and there is no other driveway for the adjoining building to use.
When the tenants call the police about the noise, they are told there is a noise ordinance that doesn't go into effect until 10PM, so until that time, they can do nothing. The owner of that building has been notified and apparently does nothing.
My question is, what would you suggest I do to solve the problem and not lose good tenants if I decide to buy the building I am considering? (The building with the noisy tenants is not for sale)
