Security cameras for investment property

Tyler England
Posted

I want to have a security camera system in place at my investment property. Does anyone have any recommendations on the best way of doing this? I want to be able to access it from home or my phone but the issue there would be the cameras needing internet access.

What kind of property are you talking about? How many cameras?

Why? Are you trying to spy on the tenants? Some things you don't want to know. Is it a security issue? If you are concerned about your tenants being robbed, educate them on renter's insurance. BTW, the police will not even look at your footage. They will do a report and move on.

@Tyler England

If you decide to install cameras make sure you look at all aspects. If you want it for peace of mind make sure that the quality of the camera is adequate for capturing evidence should the police need to review. In most all cases the police will review the cameras footage.

Its not that i want to spy on them its more so of a deterrent or if something goes wrong ill be able to take a look and hand it to the police. I also currently get a slight discount on my insurance for cameras on my personal property. Im guessing it would be the same on an investment property.

@Kevin W. You obviously have not been robbed, called the police, told them that you have all of it recorded, and been told that they don't want to see it. IF they catch the guy and he actually goes to trial, the prosecutor may want the footage. To my knowledge, cops will not even want to see it.

@Anthony Dooley - I've served in Law Enforcement for many years and I or anyone with whom I worked with would ever tell a victim that. Sounds like you must have had a bad experience...certainly not the norm.

@Anthony Dooley your one example of the police not wanting to see footage isn't an absolute fact for all rentals across the US. Even if the police didn't want footage for a robbery, im sure it could be used as evidence for worse crimes. That's besides the point though, if she wants it she wants it.
