Absconding Property Management Company

The Property Management Company that was managing my Duplex for more than 10 years has suddenly stopped responding to calls and emails.  They are located in Tampa, FL.

When their services started to deteriorate recently, I gave them notice as per contract terms and moved the properties to a different property management company.  Now I need to get my deposits and past due rentals back.

I have been unable to contact them - can anyone suggest how to proceed?  Do I need to engage the services of an attorney?

Any ideas / suggestions are welcome.

Thanks.

Raja,

Normally your new pm company should be able to talk with them and get your deposits and rents. If all else fails, I would turn them in to the FREC- Florida Real Estate Commission. There is a RE recovery fund to help with getting your funds back in these types of scenarios.

I wish you all the best
