Deposit Does Not Cover Damage

Hi there - what do you all do when a tenant's deposit does not cover the damage? Can you file in small claims court and is it worth it (property in Houston metro area)? Can you report this against their credit as an individual (property management does not do this for me)? Thanks!

@Nathan Gesner Yep - I'm going straight to collections. I just learned in Texas the statute of limitations is 4 years on nonjudgment and 10 years on the judgment. So, I'm using the statute of limitations to try to collect on even a past tenant that was evicted, owes me money, and stole a refrigerator. If nothing else, a landlord that checks her credit will be forewarned.
