Tenants From Canada Interested In Renting In US

Hello BP!

I have an interesting question I haven't encountered before - I have Canadian citizens (relocating because of work) interested in my rental home.  I recently started using Cozy.co to help me with tenant screening and I'm not sure how this tool will work (or not) or what the best tool is to help screen tenants from Canada.

I don't want to eliminate potentially viable renters (is this in any way discriminatory?) - provided the work relo is legitimate it could be a promising tenant option.  On the other hand, I have no legal recourse in case things go terribly wrong and they head back to Canada.

Have any of you had experience renting to Canadians and do you have any suggestions?  I'd appreciate any suggestions!

Thank you in advance!

As a Canadian landlord in a similar situation I would never rent to anyone from out of country. I personally never rent to any one that is not already living in my area. Not even from another city.

You will need to rely entirely on their employment contacts to judge their reliability but as with any tenant there is no guarantees how they will behave at the end of their lease. Why bother even considering screening unless they are your last hope of finding a tenant.

Unless I was very desperate to find tenants they would be delegated to the bottom of my list of qualified applicants based on risk.
