Legal description necessary for lease agreement?
Dear BP members,
I am studying for Cal Real Estate Principles course for my salesperson license. The textbook suggests
"... a contract that conveys an interest in real estate must:
* be in writing
* contain a legal description of the property
* be signed by one or more of the parties
..."
While I have seen plenty of sales contracts employing legal description, i.e., lot and block, I have never seen any lease that involves such descriptions. All the leases that I see use street address. Is it really necessary?
