TV question

I sell one of the major TV options out there, direct, dish, cable etc.  Can I make that part of the lease that only the type that I sell in my other job can be used within my rentals?  Am I violating any freedom issues there?

thanks

Uhh Yes.  FCC has regulations covering this issue.  I do believe you can provide a specific TV service to tenants at no additional charge but not prevent them from utilizing another service if they so choose.

@Mike Lalor I did a little research, and it looks like you could.

But, I think most tenants will think you can't.  One way to get around it, would be to only wire the units with the service you want them to use.  In other words, if it's only wired for dish TV, then that's their only option.  If they ask if they can get the cable company to wire their unit, say, no, I don't want them messing with my walls.

There is also a law I researched a while back for someone, that says a tenant can install dish TV antenna, if they have their own patio or outside space.  Something like that.

The building I managed was wired for cable and had telephone lines, so DSL was also an option.  But, there were no outside areas, and the owner said absolutely no to any TV dishes attached to the building.

So, you might be able to get what you want, depending on how you go about it.
