Zen like outdoor backyard spaces - worth it?
For my just renovated triplex which is in a sketchy but quickly transforming neighborhood I'm installing privacy fence to create 3 privacy spaces, 2 of them using the backyard, and one of them using the side yard. The house is nicely renovated, so the privacy fence spaces are intended to give upscale private college student residents a little privacy and separation from the neighborhood. We are only planning on white vinyl privacy fence around the space and pavers on about 2/3 of the privacy space, which will leave 1/3 for planting greenery. I looked online at tiny backyards and discovered there are hundreds of other ways to make beautiful tiny back yards, but they all look like a pricey designer was involved. How marketable is the backyard space in Florida, and how far is it worth going to make it nice? In this case, because of the contrast between this house and the neighborhood, I feel like making the private spaces is necessary to keep the high rent, which is competing with luxury apartments 2 blocks away. So the decision to make private spaces is clear to me. However, how far to go in making them zen like is the next question? And suggestions on making them more zen like on the cheap, value, or modest budget is the next question. thanks!!!

In florida, people spend time outdoors so this is attractive but likely not a deal breaker. If your property is nice and prices correctly it will rent. have you thought of using a small piece of high-quality artificial turf and some clean looking fencing? Usually, tenants will use the basic "frame" of the backyard and accesorize the rest. Also, if you do too much, the maintenence will drive costs up.
