What happens if I fail section 8 inspection?

My inspection is on December 28th. I have tried finding the answer to this question on the website (durhamhousingauthority.org). If my inspection fails, what happens to the check that should be coming on January 2nd? Does it get held, and then released following a passing inspection? Do I just not get paid?

I have about 12 units with section 8 and if the unit fails there is a write up with issues to fix and a re-inspection usually about 1 month later.  You would have to fail and re-fail inspection to risk a stop payment.  At least that is my experience with about 4-5 different section 8 agencies here in MA.  My guess is the same in NC considering it is basically a federal program implemented at the state level.

A couple of other suggestions.   If a tenant is in the house and it is a re-inspection (as it sounds) then be there for the inspection.  Otherwise the tenant will have a tendency to point out any and every issue.  If on site they tend to be quieter and sometimes you can fix on the spot.  Remember too most of these guys need issues to justify the process- I left a towel holder down once in an apartment and he obviously found it but also had to write it up than give me 2 minutes with a screw driver to put it back on.

The way it works in NYC is depending on the violation, you have to get it fixed within 30 days. Some just need the tenant to sign off. I have never gotten a serious one. If it is not done within 30 days, they hold onto the check.

@Ross Bernard In Raleigh, it works just as @Norm Bessette described above.  RHA is still a different managing entity, but it sounds like it works the same everywhere,
