Fair Housing and Section 8

I was looking at a flyer about fair housing today and it stated that one of the things you could not do is discriminate against people receiving section 8 or any form of legal income. I get that and understand it, however in order to accept section 8 doesn't your property have to go through the section 8 approval process? Sort of a chicken and egg type situation I think.

Section 8 will not allow them to rent your unit unless it goes through the process but you can't deny anyone using section 8 assistance.

Anyone who can clarify a bit would be greatly appreciated.

I have a current section 8 and it I was original worried about the inspection process. Once I approved the lease I contacted the section 8 folks and they had an inspection done in under 10 days and the first voucher was paid within a couple of weeks I was amazed at the speed and efficiency. The most important part is not the inspections but vetting your tenants or tenants with a strong background check and calls to the past landlords
