Paying for the landlords time

I recently went to view an apartment and the landlord rented it to myself and my fiancée. She asked for fifty dollars to run a credit check as well as first and last with a security deposit. We paid it all and signed the lease. When it came time to get keys she said that there were evictions on both of our credit reports (which there are not) so we thought she was scamming us, we put a stop payment on all of the checks and investigated our credit reports ourselves. Low and behold no evictions. She (the landlord) is demanding that we relinquish the 50 dollar money order not for the credit check but for her time. She's threatening to take us to court and I've told her that I am going to seek legal counsel and to please stop contacting me otherwise I'll consider it harassment which she did not listen to. Is any of this legal?

@Vannessa Craven-Moser - She is going to take you to court for $50? I doubt it!
