ca legal: Notice language and court "preferences"

A local property manager told me that the local courts (Lancaster, CA) can wreak havoc with your 30-day terminations etc because they don't think your 30-day notice was written correctly.  Has anyone heard of such a thing?

I use Nolo Press forms from the California Landlord's Lawbook (most recent edition), which purports to follow all applicable laws and claims that their forms are "legal" documents.  

Thoughts?
