Tenant Screening Question

I want some opinions on a situation I am in. I am getting married at the end of June. I am moving in with my fiance following our wedding. But, before we get married we are going to apply for our first apartment together in another state where we are being relocated due to her new Army orders. My question is this, how will the decision on whether to rent us an apartment be made given the following:

Her:
Very good credit
In the military
Has significant savings

Me:
Not so hot credit
A defaulted student loan (I'm currently rehabbing it)
A released tax lien
Small amount of savings
Excellent rental history

The apartment we are looking at is WELL below the housing allowance given us by the DOD.

Would one half of a couple cause a rental application to be denied?

Is there anything I can proactively do to help us get approved if my issues will affect our application.
