LEGISLATIVE CALL TO ACTION NEEDED - PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD!
Tell Congress to End the CARES Act 30-Day Notice to Vacate
One of the remaining provisions of the CARES Act is the 30-day Notice to Vacate that is required for properties that are federally backed (e.g., Section 8 properties, properties financed by a Fannie Mae- or Freddie Mac-backed loan, etc.). This section did not expire when the CARES Act eviction moratorium did over two years ago. It should have, but because of the way the CARES Act was drafted, it did not.
Senators Cindy Hyde-Smith (MS) and Bill Hagerty (TN), and Congressmen Barry Loudermilk (GA) and Vicente Gonzalez (TX) have introduced the Respect State Housing Laws Act, which would end the federal 30-day notice to vacate and return landlord-tenant to its pre-pandemic posture as a function of state law. The House legislation is H.R.1078, and the Senate version is S.470
Please take a few minutes today to contact your Representative and Senators to ask them to co-sponsor this legislation. (If one of your Senators or your Representative has already cosponsored the Respect State Housing Laws Act, you will get a sample message that reflects their support.)
