Craigslist Crises - BACKGROUND CHECKS BEFORE EVEN SEE THE UNIT?

Hi all,

My name is Monica, I love BP and I’m trying to get in to Real State, still in the educating myself phase and trying to find my niche. But my question has really nothing to do it my journey.. 

I have been helping my mom to relocate from Brazil to the US in the Greater Philly area, we have been on Craigslist trying to find her a place and everyone has been asking us to fill out a background and credit check BEFORE we even check out the place. So my question is, is this legit or people are just this evil nowadays?

Craigslist users, please let me know your thoughts! Any insight is much appreciated 😊 

btw looking for a room for my mom, if anybody has or knows anything, please let me know 😊

@Monica Leamy welcome to posting on BP! We ask prospective tenants a few questions on the phone or email.......what are you looking for, how many people, how many animals etc. If they get through that we send them our own app. 

We never ask for credit and BG checks until near the end and after they have seen the property. We do that because the applicant pays for those checks. You might be running into a CL thing? I have not used them for years, so no idea really. We use Zillow and Apartments.com. FB has listings too.
