CASH PAYMENTS ONLY
I started a new lease with a new landlord in November 2022. We have a written lease. On the lease, the landlord requested cash payments monthly, which I agreed upon, under the conditions that I 1. Receive a dated receipt with each monthly payment, and 2. They have to come pick it up on the 1st or 2nd of each month. We agreed, signed, and the first month was fine. Then issues started. They don’t come for the rent when we both agreed upon. December, January and February, they are late. Very late. I try and be understanding, but I work a lot and am unable to be available on random days they decide to let me know less than a day in advanced that they are coming. I have a life too. They don’t even ask me, “ hey, I know we agreed on the 1st for pickup, but I’m busy that day. What day will inconvenience you the least to make sure you are home”, or something like that. They just tell me a time they are coming. For February’s rent, they didn’t come until the 19th. Which isn’t my problem, however, I dont like it looking like I’m the reason it’s late. Now they told me they are coming on March 25th for both March and April’s rent. The issue yet again, 1. I have a wedding that day. I didn’t know I needed to keep my entire month open because they can’t follow an agreement. 2. They are telling me to pay April 7 days early without even asking. 3. WHAT THE FUC$! How do I go about this situation without coming off like a bitc$ or a problem renter? They are the ones who want cash payments. I told them maybe we should revisit how monthly rent is paid because this is really an inconvenience for me but they said no. I don’t like feeling on edge all the time; staying afloat nowadays is already hard enough, but I don’t need this kind of situation at home. I’m currently looking for available properties now, and think breaking my lease is the best option. They broke it a bunch of times already. Sorry for the long post. Thank you for any replies or advice!
