Self Directed IRA Companies
I am interested in some feedback on different self directed IRA companies. The first one I looked into has a $1000 fee for a one time setup. This may be well worth the money, but I want to make sure I chose a good company first, as it looks like changing companies later might be quite expensive.
Any suggestions?

@Curt Bixel What you propose would get your IRA fried in the event of an audit. IRS rules stipulate there can be no direct or indirect benefit between an IRA and a disqualified person, and you are disqualified. The other party is just a straw man between you and your IRA.
The main benefit of a self-directed IRA is being able to take tax-sheltered retirement savings and invest more broadly than just the stock market. If understand real estate, private lending, or some other asset class, you can outperform the market.
