Condo Rules and Tenant Privacy
Question for condo Landlords and Property Managers.
Has anyone who rented out condo units was ever mandated by the Condo building Property Management company to release the Credit Check and Background check information of their Tenants to the Building Manager as part of the tenant approval process for the lease?
In one of my rentals, the Condo Property Management implemented new leasing procedures requiring a lease to be renewed every year, updating Owner/Tenant info and signing a rent payment assignment, as well as Tenants ID or Drivers Licence, Credit info and background check results. This was not a requirement when I signed the leases 2 years ago but now the Condo Property Manager is threatening with substantial fines for non-complience.
I don't have a problem with renewing the lease docs, updating owner/tenant info or even the rent assignment form, but to ask for private information that I have to keep private by law is a huge overreach in my opinion. I know that as a property manager I have to keep my tenants and prospective tenants info protected. I just don't know why the other manager does not understand that. Do they have any merit to ask for this info? Any Privacy attorneys here?
