Carried Interest

There's been a lot of controversy about carried interest over the past few years and especially now with the election coming up. The problem seems to be hedge fund managers taking advantage. I don't really blame them for finding a loophole, but my understanding is the loophole was supposed to benefit real estate investors and now they may be screwed with a change in tax law.

I get how carried interest works on Wall Street. How does carried interest work in real estate? Will it will make it harder on house flippers buying and selling in less than one year? I am starting to flip and this was concerning news.
