I know this was asked before but all the threads are very old (years old) and things change (read many posts that say the level of service changed for both companies over the past 2 years).

So for the people that want to go into SDIRA in 2015, who would you recommend?

What's your horror stories?

I've names UDirect and EQ. Trust since they seem to be the leading two but if you want to recommend someone else (please disclose relationship/affiliations) feel free to do so.

Thanks!

I used to be with Equity Trust but when they essentially said I could not have a checkbook LLC, I moved to Sunwest Trust. Also I spent over an hour on hold with them during tax time just to ask one question. This was a while back but they did not seem to understand load balancing and customer service. If all you want is a SDIRA with limited investment activity, then ETC should be fine. If you want to do more "creative" transactions for RE investing, then you may want to look at other custodians/administrators

uDirect is a great company as well, Kaaren Hall is very knowledgeable about most real estate investor activities and they are very responsive.  Also be aware that companies like uDirect and Nuview are administrators, not custodians, so they depend on a relationship with a custodian to facilitate the SDIRA funds.

There is a pretty good list of all at NASBs website at http://www.iralending.com/ira-self-dir.htm Here is a pretty good overview of the difference between the different types: https://www.iraaa.org/custodians-administrators-and-facilitators-demystified

Happy Hunting!
