Last Name Change Impact
Hi Everyone!
I am recently married and was discussing with my wife about changing her last name. We heard there were conventional loan benefits if she kept her name. Is this true? Would we be able to take out twice as many conventional loans (max for me and max for her) if we are married but had different last names? Or does this not matter?
This could also be by state. We are moving to the Denver area, so wondering if Colorado had specific laws on this.
Thanks for any insight on this!
Nick

@Nick Moser There is no benefit nor requirement to have different last names to get mortgages in only one of your names. My wife and I both have multiple properties financed in only one of our names to allow the 10 mortgaged properties each for conventional loans. So long as each of you can qualify on your own it is a great way to get more fixed rate long term loans. Also not state specific as the loans are underwritten by national guidelines.
