How can I vet private lenders?

Hi, I’m getting to my email or seeing on Facebook groups some private lenders that are marketing themselves.

It’s my first time to use private lender and wondering how can I vet them?

How can I know that it is not a scam?

They have a website that seems good but it isn’t enough for me..

For example- “all state funding inc” (NJ).

 Vet Lenders via websites, google reviews etc.  I strongly disagree that "private lenders are rarely on fb" - the world has changed and a lot of forward-thinking lenders are directly marketing and interacting with potential borrowers on social media platforms, this is not a red flag

I would also strongly recommend the Mortgage Lenders page here at BiggerPockets - BP does a great job vetting lenders and listing quality shops right here on the website
