Asset Protection: To Share or Not to Share

Curious thoughts here. Do you talk about your rentals and real estate properties? Or are your lips are sealed to better your asset protection?

Background:

Like many of you, I LOVE real estate and the opportunities its affords for financial freedom. As such, I am constantly sharing my experience and the life real estate can offer. Today I ran into someone who had vague comments about real estate investing but wouldnt share how many units he had or if he was actively investing. He asked if I knew anything about assets protection and that he doesnt talk to anyone about how he "dabbles in real estate." He recommended I consider doing the same.

In my experience, most investors have been extremely open with me and I've learned a lot from them in turn. I find most people who invest mention it somewhere in casual conversation.

What are your thoughts? I know many of us assume it's a matter of when not if someone comes after your assets, so we should plan accordingly (use LLCs, etc). But do you go as far as not talking about RE? Or do you only share a basic information? For many BPers, we could listen to their podcast and get plenty of insights. My reaction is this might be too cautious and I'd rather share options for investing they may never have considered. How about you??
