Advice of investing overseas

I travel overseas a lot for my job. I was wondering of anyone had experience with rental investing in the European Union. If so, what were some of the challenges and pitfalls (property management, finance, taxes, etc)? Also, what are some of the available financing options? Will U.S.-based lenders work? HML? Or local European lenders? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
