Networking group scam

Hey all, brand new to real estate investing and I had a question: Basically I attended a local REIA meeting last week and the event was great. Tons of networking both structured and unstructured. Got lots of numbers and contacts and generally had a good degree of success meeting people there. I met an investor (Maybe) there who invited me to property tour. He described it as a networking opportunity and a chance to see a rehab in action and learn the process. Well I got there and they briefly went over the rehab, how it was acquired, costs, etc. Then over the next hour they started talking about this networking group and had a handful of attendees talk about how this group helped them knowledge-wise to make better investments. There's a follow-up meeting tonight and the way they were getting the attendees to go seemed kinda fishy to me. They basically said I should go no matter what, cancel your existing plans, stop hesitating, we've already got you pre-registered, if you're sick we better see the ambulance, etc. I'm paraphrasing a bit but, the fact that it went from tour to sales pitch and the sales tactics, screams scam to me. Does anyone have any experience with these networking groups and am I wasting my time going tonight?
