Section 8 landlords

Hey there! From Portland and looking to start investing for the first time. Thinking about a duplex, live in one and rent the other to a section 8 tenant, any local landlords that can give advice on rent analysis? Or any other advice for that matter..Thank you guys!

You probably think Section 8 sounds easy because the government pays you, but that's not how it is. Section 8 rentals can do very well, but you have to practice and do several of them to make it worth it. It's not something you just do and the property matters to get approved.

It sounds like you just want to house hack. I would focus on house hacking, finding a two-family, and just getting the best renter in the other side.
