How to find true owner?

What skip tracing techniques/platforms or other avenues do you use to find the true owner of a property? Especially when there is an entity in front?

What exactly are you looking for in an API? We recently took on a Commercial Education client out of the midwest that skips large amounts of LLCs and Trusts for their clients/students and we're creating an API for them.

What I typically do is find the name of the person who owns the LLC but looking up the state of secretaries website for that state and then it should come up with a name or another entity, you can keep trying that until you find a name. You can try to find contact info by using fastpeoplesearch.

Yes, you’d be surprised the amount of inaccurate information. Some counties don’t update their information but one time a year. And that’s assuming they get their information right the first time. All of this can be unbeknownst to the owner. That’s just one of many examples.

To add to the list here, I've seen folks go to their local Security of State to get some of that information. Lead Sherpa can also skip trace LLCs, corporations, and trusts.

First step is always call the county or city, often they have the name on file and will tell you even if it's an entity. Not sure if they should, but often they do.

After that, the governing body that took the filing in should be able to look up the business owner.

Thanks Gentlemen, I use opencorporates right now and have found their entity search to be spotty at times. I believe they are UK based, not that it has anything to do with coverage. I have found CorporationWiki to be the best, but they do not have an API, which is what makes opencorporates appealing :)
