The process when making an offer on a short sale.

Hello:

I made an offer on a short sale and the seller quickly accepted it about one month ago.The attorney review was then completed, and now we are waiting for the lender approval.Generally, how long does it take for lender approval to go through? It seems like such a waste of time waiting for lender approval, especially for the seller, who could probably be entertaining higher offers.
