How much does a small commercial bakery cost to build?

My friend has a bakery idea for a gummy line that he has tested over the last few years. He wants to either buy a building or possibly commercial land to build a building. He will have a few ovens, refrigerators and freezers along with some storage area. What have yall seen in past for a small bakery size and possible cost to build around Richmond, Virginia.

Way too many variables there to advise you. Huge difference between ground up and up fitting an existing space. There are several GCs in Richmond that do small commercial food service builds you can reach out to but you will need some sort of plan, specifications and equipment list before they can give you any idea of budget.

Why don't you outsource the production first to a small batch production company and see if they sell? Patent the process and the ingredients and have an NDA with manufacturer and they will produce it for you without large real estate investment, at least to get started.  Don't forget, the RE will be one cost, but certifications, FDA approvals, nutritional stuff and all the inspections....it will take you a year or two before you can sell anything....I recommend go to a white label production companies and ask them to produce your batches....they will have 99% of the stuff ready, and the remaining stuff like nutritional certifications and labeling, etc., they will already have lots of experience with and they will be able to walk you through it.  You can be selling your stuff in months not years.  Just my 2 cents.
