Strategy with large buildings

I keep seeing these super large concrete buildings going up even where there are empty buildings available a block away. These are financed and available so they aren't built for a specific purpose. I'm trying to understand that strategy and how they get financing. It also doesn't seem possible that market retail rents would cover the expenses of such a large new build

Your talking about large manufacturing type buildings? If that's the case, it's no secret that the US is re-patriating jobs from overseas. Somebody is putting that up hoping that the next microchip factory, i-phone, tesla battery, etc will come in and occupy it.
