Doing your first deal

Hey BPers, Newbie Brittney here, I have a quick question. I've recently decided that I want to get into REI and I want to get into the action ASAP. I wanna know how long did it take you to do your first deal? From the pre-contemplation phase, to getting yourself educated, then finally jumping out there and making the deal. Which step took the longest? Do you feel like your timing was right? I kinda want to gauge how long I should take, what's too ambitious and what's realistic.
