Private purchase of property if it's listed for auction?

Hey guys, my question is...Is it possible to privately purchase a property that is

already posted onto the sheriff sale list? There is a property in the

process of undergoing a tax lien auction but is currently in the

"Stayed" status. Was wondering if properties as such can be dealt

privately?
