Small Town/City Research Help

Hi Bigger Pockets friends. I'm just starting out in my REI journey and I'm wondering where to go to get statistics on the city/area that I'm interested in. I would like to know if the city has a "revitalization" plan. I think it has potential, but it would definitely require a concerted effort by all stakeholders. Thanks for any advice you may provide.
