Primary home designation

Hi all,

We live in CA and have a second home in WA. Both homes have me and wife on title as well as mortgage.

I have taken up a new job in WA. It was remote until now but I have moved up to our WA home now that the state has opened somewhat. My wife plans to stay in CA with our son because the day care and weather is better. That said, I am considering refinancing our WA home and apply for mortgage with this place as our primary (even though my wife continues to live down in CA). My reading indicates convincing underwriters is tough in such situations (husband/wife in separate primary residences). If that's case, does anyone have any suggestions to simplify the situation so that we can refi with the low rates?

Thanks in advance,
