Advice on storage facilities

I'd like to pick some brains about investing in different types of storage facilities. Those that just do RV or boats. Those that do the full works. Info on fencing, surveillance, climate controlled vs. outdoor, concrete vs. asphalt vs. gravel. Trying to gain as much knowledge as possible. I want the good, the bad and downright ugly. If you happen to be in NC I'd also be willing to volunteer my time just to learn the lay of the land.
