Tax Lien- Deceased Owner but Family wants Home Back

Hello, I recently paid the taxes on a home. The property was a tax lien. The owner of the home is deceased. I haven’t heard anything about anyone wanting to pay the taxes so I’ve started fixing up the property. Recently, I got wind that the owners family is trying to pay the taxes back. Does this mean they get the home back if they pay the taxes? What legal action can I take if possible? This is in Alabama. Thanks for any advice!

Denise Evans, a member here, is the resident expert on AL tax liens and has a bunch of info on youtube....I can’t tag her though, hopefully she’ll chime in.  I do know there is a redemption period, in most cases and I would assume an heir can step into the deceased owner’s shoes, probably after some probate action, but not sure.

You need to read up on AL tax lien laws.....different circumstances will mean different rights/possibilities.
