Opportunity Zones - Latest Podcast

Overheard this on the latest podcast, Amanda Han brought it up. As i understand it, the government will soon let you roll over your stock proceeds tax free into purchase in areas deemed “opportunity zones”. If you hold for 10 years, you may be exempt from all capital gains taxes. 

These designated Opporutnity Zones should be announced in the next 30-60 days.

I think people are sleeping on the benefit of these zones for real estate development purposes. It's a little misleading to say "all cap gains tax" after 10 years, the EIG says that for every $100 of unrealized capital gains invested, you save $44 compared to similar investments. 

Most states have something like this, btw:

My apologies. Not my intention to mislead, that'd just the way it was explained on the podcast as being a possibility. 

I'm also watching this as it develops and thank you for posting that map of Ohio. Extremely helpful. I'll start poking around for other states when I get some downtime.
