Online Rental Property Sites (i.e. Roofstock & Homeunion)

Has anyone used marketplaces such as Roofstock and Homeunion for purchasing rental investment properties?  The sites' research looks decent, and the inventory (at least on Roofstock) seems diverse and promising.  Homeunion's fees seem steep to me.  Wondering if anyone has used these sites to acquire a property, and, if so, how the experience was.  

We recently cashed out of a Brooklyn condo, and the equity would go way farther as a couple of down payments in better value markets.  Online marketplaces seem like a promising way to find a place to invest without the terrible yields and insane closing costs of the NYC market.  Looking to see if there are horror stories or lessons learned out there on these types of sites.

Thanks all, first time posting, have not yet bought a property but it is on the list for 2017.  I'd love to turn the condo equity I never expected to have when I bought off a desperate sponsor in 2009 into a steady income stream, but don't have the time to be a full time landlord.  Wondering if these online markets are a decent first step.
