Investing while waiting to invest

Hello all,

I am currently in the learning and saving phase while I prepare to buy my second home. Does anyone have any short term investment vehicles that they would recommend for say a 2-5 year period that would be better than just letting it sit in a savings account? Thanks!

@Robert Burke Community and regional banks are a different animal.  Being an out-of-state investor myself the community bank I worked with really wanted to figure out my tie to that community.  Wells Fargo, BofA, Chase, etc. really won't care at all.  If you've had a bank at the community bank you'd like to use for 2 years before investing it's a track record that may (or may not) factor into loan committee discussions.
