Is there any reason to use a certified home inspector?

Hi all,

I am looking to buy a property and will be scheduling a home inspection.  In the past I have found the $500 or so spent on a home inspection to be money not that well spent.

I have a contractor who is not a certified home inspector and I find my walk through with him during the buying process a lot more useful in identifying costly issues etc.

So my question is, is there any other reason (insurance purpose etc.) to use a certified home inspector?

And if I do not use a home inspector, should I still get a termite inspection done separately?

Thanks everyone.
