Fuel tank
Hi BP friends,
I am currently trying to buy a house. I found an abandoned fuel tank on the property and the seller has agreed to remove it. The removal will be done by a certified company and an inspector from the town will be on site to validate if there is evidence of a leak or not. Even if the inspector verifies that there is no leak I was still hoping to sample the soil and have it tested at a lab for my own piece of mind. I am trying to be extra cautious in case standards change over time and a future buyer is not satisfied with just paperwork from the town and wants to see soil sample results. Unfortunately, the seller does not want to agree to me running the soil samples even though it would be at my expense. Seller believes that a green light from the town should be sufficient. This could potentially be a deal breaker. Is testing the soil even if no apparent evidence of leak once fuel tank is removed overkill or is it a smart thing to do and worth walking away from the house over this if seller refuses to budge?
