Forgo inspections when making a cash offer?

My wife and I have cash on hand, but limited time. We're looking for a turn key ready, or light fixer as a rental close to our home. The market here is extremely competitive, even though we're making cash offers.

After making a cash offer on a short sale, the seller's agent hinted to our agent that our price was good, ours was the only cash offer to include a 10 day, post-third-party-approval inspection period. We've saved thousands by doing sewer inspections before, and I don't want to skip that step. I realize we will likely have time between the seller accepting our offer and the bank approving, but I also don't like the idea of paying for inspections before knowing that we'll actually be able to go through with the purchase. 

Is it typical for cash buyers to forgo the inspection period? Would you remove the inspection period from an all cash offer on a short sale?
