Rentals Vs. Flips

I have heard very different opinions when it comes to acquiring rental properties versus strictly investing in quality flips. Some have horror stories stemming from problems with tenants and general upkeep on their rental houses. On the other hand, I know numerous people have been able to quit their day job and are financially stable off of rental income alone. I personally believe that investing in the right rental property is a very wise decision. Does anybody have a differing opinion?
