Probate - letter of interest

Up in Canada, assuming probate process is generally common across the continent. I live in an area where seniors and retirees are plentiful, and as such, the court dockets typically have numerous probate filings. As market listings have all but evaporated, with dozens of offers presented on listed properties, I am turning to finding off market properties, with probate being explored as a potential source. My thought is to deliver a Letter of Interest to purchase, to the solicitor who is handling the application.  I assume they then would be obligated to notify the executor of its existence. Just checking if anyone has utilized such an approach and what experience they've gained.
