Question about security deposit when transferring owners

Stephanie Huynh
Posted

Hello!

I recently closed on a home in Ohio and the previous owner said he never received the security deposit from the owner before him. The lease says that there was a 750 security deposit. Will I end up just having to eat the $750 cost once the tenant moves out? Anyone have any suggestions about the best way to handle this?

Unfortunately I was not made aware of this until very late and the seller refused to credit me the 750 because he says he never received it either, so I'm wondering if theres anything I can do at this point.
