How to tag other people?

Tried tagging someone who replied to one of my posts and unsuccessfully did it so I edited it and just put their name. Can someone show me how to tag them? And will they get an alert? I also am not getting alerts for replies to posts I have created like this one.

@Blake King , You can tag anyone who has already commented in that thread (discussion) or anyone who you are colleagues with.

To tag someone who has already commented in the thread, type in @? and a list of people who have commented will pop up. (For threads with many commenters, the list is scrollable.)
