Considering opening an independent real estate office.

Hey BP! My wife and I are considering opening a real estate office. She has been a licensed agent for around 6 years and a licensed broker for 2. She's consistently in the top 15% or so of agents in our MLS and is now at the point where she really doesn't have to chase down leads unless she just wants to. I love real estate and my job is all about the finances/day to day business. I have a W-2 currently but would be getting my license should we go this route.

My question is what kind of advice can you offer for us as we plan and brainstorm?  What things are we missing?  If you have started your own office, what do you wish someone told you before you took the leap?

Thanks for your thoughts!

I don't know why anyone would want to have their own brokerage right now with all the teams able to act as mini-brokerages without all of the headaches and liability. I think if you explore the team option, you will find it can give you what you want without much of the overhead on your shoulders.
