United State Air Force to Real Estate Agent
Good morning BP Community,
I am transitioning out of the Air Force next April and I am working on my Real Estate license for the state of Colorado. As I am in the process of getting my license and figuring out my move to Colorado I was wondering what other skills(negotiation, Youtube, marketing) or computer programs I could be learning to help me be a successful agent?
Also, how do you go about looking for different brokers you would like to work with? Do you start a google search and call the company directly or do you contact an agent at the company and ask them to get you in contact with the lead agent?
Thank you for any insight that you can give me.
Respectfully,
Kevin

Kevin, I was a JTAC in the Air Force for 21 years, retired in 2008, started real estate in 2010.
You can find Brokers via an internet search. Look for ones that are active, good reviews, good marketing, etc. The responsible broker is typically identified on the web site so you can contact them directly or through an office manager.
A large company like Keller Williams or Berkshire or Remax may be a good place to start. The larger national chains tend to have good training programs to get you started. However, you'll be a little minnow in a big pond trying to compete against the experienced agents. You can go to a smaller Brokerage where there's less in-office competition, but you're likely to get less training. You can also look into joining a team, where you're responsible for particular tasks as an assistant to the lead agent. That can get you some experience and education quickly, but it's more like a job where you do the same mundane experiences over and over instead of the full gamut.
David Greene has a new book in the BP bookstore "SOLD" that you should check out. It has a lot of practical information about what it takes to be a successful agent, including how to find a Broker. You can also read "Real Estate Millionaire" by Gary Keller of Keller-Williams.
